Monday 23rd March 2102

Jacinda Ardern announced today (Monday 23 March) that the country’s alert level would be rising to 3, before rising again to level 4 – the highest – 48 hours later.

This announcement means that as of 11:59 pm on Wednesday New Zealand will be going into lock-down.

What Level 3 means

All New Zealanders outside of essential services must stay home. Essential businesses and services remain available.

What you must do

We are currently at Level 3, but will move to COVID-19 Alert Level 4 at 11.59 pm on Wednesday 25 March. Level 3 means New Zealanders not working in essential services must stay at home and stop all interactions with others outside of your household.

If you are a Salon Owner then you do not supply ESSENTIAL Services (although your clients might argue otherwise) . This means you need to CLOSE YOUR SALON NOW until further notice or government instruction. It does not mean you can keep trading until Wednesday at midnight.

This message is very clear, we must do all we can to stem the spread of this virus – and each and every one of us has a responsibility to play our part in doing just that. It will be tough on your salon business, you will have to look hard at how you can survive this and be ready to trade when the restrictions are lifted. Keep tuned to NZARH website for more information and help. We are here for our members and will do all we can to assist you at this time.

Where can I get financial support?

The Government is acting to support New Zealanders through these changes with an updated package that has been expanded now they have escalated their response. This includes:

  • a wage subsidy scheme
  • leave and self-isolation support
  • business cash flow and tax measures.
