A very warm welcome to Sue who joined us as a Co-opted Board Member after our AGM back in March! Thank you for all the awesome work you’ve already been doing for us and being one of the team during the last few months, Sue – we are so grateful to have you on board!
Welcome, Sue Chard
As an experienced hairdresser (45 years), salon owner, industry assessor, president of the local association and avid competitor Sue still loves the industry she is so entrenched in.
Owning 3 salons at one time and training about 40 apprentices Sue undertook another challenge of buying a Private Training Provider. Knowing 75% of it Sue decided she could do this. It cannot be that hard, surely, but not realising the 25% Sue didn’t know was bigger than the 75% she did know.
Now 15 years down the track and the business has diversified into delivering barbering, makeup, NCEA programs along with hairdressing. Taking this business to a Category 1 NZQA rating, Quality Mark Best Practise with HITO, Provider of the Year ITENZ & Supreme Winner of the Year they have reached the highest accolades from all stakeholders.
Being part of NZARH, industries ‘only’ organisation is paramount to Sue. To support hairdressing & barbering from a national perspective is the only way forward. The industry needs to unite and improve its reputation, so people are attracted to the hair industry.
Sue has seen for years’ exploitation and unfairness to our young people and wants to be part of the change to make our industry aware of what it is doing to itself, be proactive to improving working conditions and support getting people qualified in a desirable timeframe.
Both the barbering & hairdressing industries need to look at how to attract and keep its workforce. So being part of the Executive Board is a perfect vehicle to table what is actually happening in the regions and to offer ideas to help the industry raise its standards.
So be it, this is why Sue wants to be part of the change to grow our industry for the greater good.
Great to have you on board, Sue!
